Asia University Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing Holds the 113th Academic Year Capping Ceremony — Students Embrace the Nursing Mission and Step into Professional Clinical Practice
On May 3, the Asia University Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing held the 113th Academic Year Capping Ceremony. Second-year students of the Spring cohort and first-year students of the Autumn cohort, together with their family and friends, gathered to participate in the solemn yet warm ceremony, where students received the symbolic nursing cap representing their professional mission, officially stepping into the practical phase of nursing.
The ceremony welcomed several distinguished guests from the clinical nursing field, including Director Shih-Kai Li of the Nursing Department at Ministry of Health and Welfare Caotun Hospital, Supervisor Ming-Li Hsieh of the Nursing Department at China Medical University Hospital, Supervisor Yin-Ling Lin of the Nursing Department at Asia University Hospital, and Supervisor Li-Chin Hung of the Nursing Department at Taichung Veterans General Hospital, all of whom witnessed this important milestone with the students.
During the ceremony, Director Shih-Kai Li emphasized in his speech: “The world is currently facing a severe shortage of nursing professionals. Choosing to enter the nursing field at this time is not only a wise career decision but also a significant contribution to society.” President Hua-Shan Wu encouraged the students: “Despite the pressures of balancing family and academic responsibilities, you have persisted in pursuing professional excellence, demonstrating both commitment and courage in the nursing vocation.” She also referenced the 2025 International Nurses Day theme by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) — “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies” — highlighting the core value of the nursing profession to society and economic development, and stating: “When society values and supports nurses, the overall healthcare system is strengthened, fostering progress in both national health and economic growth.”
Director Pi-Chu Lin, Head of the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing, noted that the capping ceremony symbolizes students officially taking on the responsibility of the nursing mission. She stressed that during clinical internships, students must uphold empathy and professional competence, practicing the core values of nursing. She encouraged students to cherish what they have learned at university, to courageously face the challenges of internships and national licensure exams, and to become outstanding nursing professionals needed by society.
Student representative Mei-Han Chuang shared her personal journey, from running a kindergarten and engaging in long-term care services to ultimately deciding to enroll in the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing. She said: “Through caring for children and the elderly, I gradually realized the importance and profound significance of the nursing profession. This path is challenging, but I have never regretted it.” She also expressed gratitude for the support of her family, mentors, and fellow students, whose encouragement made the learning journey less lonely. She passionately called on her peers: “Let us work together, complete our studies, pass the nursing licensure exam, and fulfill the promises and dreams we set out to achieve.”
The capping ceremony was more than a symbolic ritual; it represents the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing students becoming a strong support for the future of the nursing profession. From the moment they wear the nursing cap, representing professional responsibility, each student takes on the mission of safeguarding health and life. Moving forward, they will enter clinical settings with gentle yet steadfast hands, applying knowledge and compassion to meet patients’ needs, becoming an essential part of Taiwan’s and the world’s nursing workforce.
