To enhance students’ understanding of clinical care settings and future career development, a total of 30 faculty members and students from the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Nursing visited Chang Bing Show Chwan Memorial Hospital on May 16, 2025. The delegation was led by Director Pi-Chu Lin, along with faculty members Hui-Chi Li and Yu-Fang Ling. The visit was warmly received by hospital representatives, including Hospital Superintendent Hung-Chang Yen, Director of the Nursing Department Mei-Juan Wu, and Nursing Supervisor Hui-Wen Ko. The program commenced with an introductory briefing and guided presentation.
Director Mei-Juan Wu first introduced the distinctive features of the hospital campus, the clinical practice environment, staff training and professional development pathways, as well as innovative practices related to nurses’ salaries and benefits. Subsequently, Head Nurse Chih-Chi Chuang provided an in-depth overview of smart healthcare applications, including the four-quadrant configuration of electronic medical whiteboards, the operation of the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) alert system, and the potential roles of robotic technologies in clinical practice. Students responded enthusiastically, actively engaging in discussion and raising thoughtful questions, demonstrating a high level of learning motivation.
The group then proceeded to observe the 7B Smart Ward and VIP ward. Students were particularly impressed by how AI and advanced technological systems are integrated into nursing workflows to enhance efficiency and patient safety. The smart ward design, which significantly reduces administrative burden while optimizing the quality of care, provided students with a clearer and more concrete vision of their future clinical practice.
Following this, faculty and students visited the IRCAD Asia Telemedicine and Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Center, an international-standard facility, where Director Ai-Yuan Huang gave a comprehensive introduction. Upholding the spirit of IRCAD Strasbourg, founded in France in 1994, the center was established at Show Chwan Hospital in 2008 and has since become a key training hub for surgeons across Asia. By integrating advanced equipment with internationally renowned faculty, the center offers a premier platform for surgical education. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it even enabled synchronous international training and instruction in minimally invasive surgery through live broadcasting, despite global travel restrictions.
Through this visit, students not only witnessed firsthand the clinical application and efficiency of smart healthcare systems, but also gained practical insights into nurses’ working conditions and welfare policies. The experience helped students develop a clearer and more concrete direction for planning their future careers.
